About
My name is Abby Buckley, I am the middle child of three girls. I was born in Quesnel, moved to Kitimat where my younger sister was born when I was 21 months, then moved to my hometown where I was raised in Comox, British Columbia. I lived in Comox from 4 years old until I was 19 years old. I was living in Toronto, because of a boy and chasing my dreams of being a Doula; now I am back to the valley. I have always had a passion for helping everyone all around. Ive most certainly had a passion for children and women. Now putting the two together is my absolute dream . Women are the most brave, heroic, and powerful beings in my opinion. What a women body can do is absolutely breath taking.
My dream was also to do something with helping mothers and children. I took a year off to get to know myself, and try and figure out what I would like to do with my life. I was going to become a daycare teacher and receive my Early Childhood Education. As my year off of just working, I bumped into a friend, who was talking about how she was going to become a Doula. I have never heard such a thing. As I did my research of what I Doula is I became more and more intrigued. What could be more amazing than to support parents throughout their labour process (also their pregnancy process) and help get to a parent/child bond like no other.
I found out there was a class to become a Postpartum and Birth Doula of June 2019. I had to attend. The people I got to connect and make memories with was such an amazing experience that I could not imagine that it could get any better.
Well, it did. I have supported a couple of families in postpartum, and one couple through birth, and its all been a lovely experience, to be part of their journeys.
